It's July 7, 2023 in Brazil, meaning that my fanfic "The Legend of Vinicius (TLoV)" is officially 10 years old!

The pilot episode was posted on this DeviantArt account on July 7, 2013, with three more episodes (this time of the "true" series) posted as the year went by. The episodes were all in Brazilian Portuguese, with machine-translated English versions released too.

In 2014, all episodes, including the pilot one, were deleted from DeviantArt as I felt that the site was not fit for fanfics. Since then, all episodes, in their original Brazilian Portuguese version, are posted on Brazilian fanfiction sites "Spirit Fanfics" and "Nyah! Fanfiction".

10 years, 1 pilot episode and 18 episodes later, the series' first season is close to an end. Episode 19 will come... someday (not so fun fact: episode 18 was written when the fanfic was 8 years old).

I've written other fanfics alongside TLoV, but this turned out to do more harm than good due to a "quantity vs. quality" situation. Today, besides, TLoV, only "Otaku Warriors" and "Magical Girl Power" stay strong. I basically can't write any long fanfic other than these three, otherwise the bad scheduling would get even worse. Cure Gaia, Cure Clover and the Pichu Brothers will have to wait much longer.

To celebrate the 10th Anniversary, TLoV will start being posted on AO3, starting with the pilot episode, in both BR-PT and a new English translation (that is both accurate and keeps the script format of the BR-PT version).

Brazilian Portuguese version: https://archiveofourown.org/works/48423646

English version: https://archiveofourown.org/works/48423223

These reposts also includes detailed author's notes explaining how things came to be and what I think of each chapter today. They will be updated from time to time.

A video game adaptation, called "The Legend of Vinicius RPG", is in development too.

EDIT (MARCH 22, 2022): ALL DEMOS* NOW AVALIABLE ON itch.io: https://vini310.itch.io/the-legend-of-vinicius-rpg

*DEMO 1 is just for a friend, so it's not avaliable.

Hello, followers.

I'm here to inform that the English version of the 3rd DEMO for "The Legend of Vinicius RPG" has been completed and sent to Google Drive earlier this March. I didn't notified here because I wanted to post the game on RPG Maker Web first and see the feedback.

At the time I'm writing this, the thread, posted on March 6, 2022, has no responses: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/the-legend-of-vinicius-rpg-demo-3.145453/

But it gets worse: for some reason, Google Drive won't let people download the DEMOS (yes, the previous ones were affected) unless they have permission from the uploader, despite me (the UPLOADER) explicitly telling Google that ANYONE who has the link should be able to access the game.

I have to find a way to solve this problem, amybe by using itch.io or something, because there's no way I'm going to be logged on my gmail account 24/7 just to respond to access requests.

I’m writing this on December 21, 2021. By this point, it makes 10 years since I started using RPG Maker. Granted, this happened before December 21, 2011, but still, 10 years.

Ever since I was 8, if I remember correctly, I had interest in making a game. By the time I was 11, I had decided that I wanted make video games for a living, work for a company (maybe create my own) and etc. Then at age 12, I knew about RPG Maker’s existence…

I initially downloaded RPG Maker XP, with the intention of creating Pokémon fangames. Of course, that didn’t go far due to my inexperience, neither did all the other, non-Pokémon related games I tried to create. It was a period of experimentation, even though I was sure I could create something, it was only a matter of time until I hit a roadblock of some sort, mostly in the form of having no idea on what to do next.

This would change in December 2011, when I got a Nintendo 3DS with Mario Kart 7, and 10 days later I got Super Mario 3D Land as well. Combining that with the fact that Super Mario World was my first game ever (at age 4, even), I started looking back at everything I had done thus far, at all the games I’ve played and so on, more or less like today as I write this… essay?

Anyway, I wanted to create something that was a tribute to video games as a whole, and with that, a project called “Super Mario Revolution” started development.

Before we continue, here’s something interesting: I knew DeviantArt at age 12, and tried to make an account there, but the site said I was too young. Because it was December and my birthday was in February, I decided to just wait until my birthday, February 1st, however my account was created a few days after that.

To make a long story short: Super Mario Revolution was originally conceived as a webcomic that would be turned into a video game if it proved to be successful enough, however, my drawing skills were (and, technically, still are) very amateurish and I couldn’t draw most characters properly, so I scrapped the idea of a webcomic to focus on a video game.

And, in hindsight, I thought that Super Mario Revolution was going to be my magnum opus. I had never put so much time and energy into a game I was developing, you can even see that with the many Super Mario Revolution-related arts I was posting, like the many title screens, and I even requested an artist to draw a logo for the game.

Unfortunately, things went downhill: after all, I still had school and homework to do, and was the only one working on Super Mario Revolution. Putting much time and energy into something doesn’t mean much when you lack the skill to do everything properly. Between inconsistent graphics, awful gameplay balancing, and a story that tried to connect every main series Mario game, even the spin-offs (more on that later), and overall feeling more like a RPG with Mario than a Mario RPG, and the lack of time due to focus on school (meaning fixing anything would prove to be extremely complicated), I decided to cancel Super Mario Revolution to preserve my sanity.

But, with me knowing me the way I know myself, I would not let the cancellation of Super Mario Revolution be the end of all, especially when it could very well be a new beginning.

If developing a video game was too much sand for my truck, than there certainly must be something else I could do, as a form of compensation or training. It was during this time that I found a character creator named “AnimeGen”, which I started using (to rather exaggerated levels), in addition to realizing that, since I used to tell a lot of stories (be it via toys, comics written by me or fanfics written by me, and that I never posted anywhere and may be lost in some rotten, old computer), why not write fanfiction?

Thus, many projects were born, three of which are important for this post: Magical Girl Power, Otaku Warriors (more on those two later) and, for last but not least, The Legend of Vinicius, the successor (yeah, let’s call it that) of Super Mario Revolution.

In terms of story, Super Mario Revolution was an attempt at organizing the events of Mario games (more specifically, the Super Mario series, alongside the Yoshi and Wario Land/WarioWare series) in a chronological order. So, for example, the game would start during a transition between Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros., and later in the game, during the Super Mario World arc,Yoshi would say that he recognizes Mario and Luigi, and was basically a babysitter to them, cue a playable flashback based off the Yoshi Island games.

But remember earlier, when I said that I wanted Super Mario Revolution to be a tribute to video games as a whole? Well, halfway through the game, the concept of parallel worlds would be introduced, and with that, characters from other Nintendo franchises (e.g. Metroid, Zelda, Kirby, Pokémon) would appear in Mario’s world and vice-versa, but it wasn’t limited to video game characters, courtesy of Vinícius (with an acute accent on the second “i”, the English equivalent is “Vinicius”, without the acute accent).

Vinícius wasn’t a video game character, rather, he was from a world where Mario was just an entertainment product. In other words, our world. He was transformed into a green Toad during the teleportation and would live with Mario characters (think Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, the inspiration for this idea), constantly traveling between the real world and the video game world.

I had NINE sequels planned for Super Mario Revolution, all of which would feature Vinícius as an important character in some way or another. Of course, this also included a game entirely for him, called “Super Mario RPG: The Legend of Vinicius”.

When I decided to transform, well, SMR into TLoV, this is where the name came from. I had thought in other two names: “Super Vinicius” (looked too simplistic) and “The Adventures of Vinicius” (looked too cliché). I chose “The Legend of Vinicius” because it looked the least bad of the three.

At the time (2011-2013), my knowledge of video games was very limited, and I for the most part only played Pokémon, Mario, Smash Bros., Naruto, Digimon and Inazuma Eleven alongside other things. Most of the gaming world was still alien to me, this is visible in the way I named the fanfic. “The Legend of Vinicius” is an obvious reference to “The Legend of Zelda”, a series that I am indifferent towards to this day (Hyrule Warriors is great, though). This is what happens when you have small reference pools.

July 7, 2013 marked the debut of The Legend of Vinicius, with both the original Brazilian Portuguese version and a bad, machine-translated English version. Four chapters (1 extra, 3 main) were posted on DeviantArt before I decided to move the fanfic to a Brazilian fanfic website called “Spirit”, since it looked more appropriate (due to being, you know, a FANFIC-CENTRIC website). I was right.

As of December 22, 2021 (this was not written from start to end in one day), both Portuguese and English versions of the chapters were deleted from DeviantArt. The former is posted on Spirit and Nyah! Fanfiction, while the latter got a retranslation from my bare hands. Only 2 chapters (1 extra, 1 main) were retranslated, and I’m unsure about what to do:

- Keep translating until the latest chapter?

- Wait until all 155 (5 extra, 150 main) chapters are finished to then translate everything to English?

- Finish Magical Girl Power (whose chapters are translated to English alongside the Brazilian Portuguese version, except for the latest chapter, which hasn’t been translated yet) before working on The Legend of Vinicius’ English translation?

And Otaku Warriors won’t get an English translation until I’m at least done with Magical Girl Power.

Now, about The Legend of Vinicius RPG…

On April 1st, 2014, I announced on Spirit that I had plans to make a video game adaptation of The Legend of Vinicius. Despite the date of the announcement, it wasn’t a lie. I, however, wasn’t entirely sure of what to do with the game.

At first, it was going to be a beat ’em up, inspired by the Sailor Moon games I played when I was a kid. Making a beat ‘em up game on RPG Maker may sound stupid, but with the right scripts and plugins, anything is possible.

Things were going smoothly until around 2016, when I realized that I’ve put myself into a corner by writing six or seven fanfics at the same time, in addition to developing two or three games (and I say “two or three” because I don’t recall if Vinicius RPG was on hiatus or not). By writing so many fanfics and developing so many games at the same time, it only meant that none of them would get the proper focus, since I was zig-zagging between everything. That’s why most of the things I did were either put on hiatus or outright cancelled, so I could focus on what matters the most: The Legend of Vinicius (both the fanfic and the game), Otaku Warriors and Magical Girl Power.

The Legend of Vinicius RPG was then changed: from a beat ‘em up to a more standard RPG that would cover the entire plot of the fanfic, a la Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (on top of changing the engine to RPG Maker VX Ace). Of course, trying to do that with a story that isn’t even close to being finished wasn’t a smart decision, and the game would end up too long for its own good, so I made another major change: the game is now a sequel to The Legend of Vinicius, the titular character is not playable - though he still plays an important role to the plot - , instead, the player controls a friend of his, a brand new character made for this game in particular. Said friend is also the only playable character, as the game follows a “one-man army” approach, with deep customization of skills and magic (both of those can be acquired by equipping specific equipment and defeating bosses).

And that’s The Legend of Vinicius RPG in its current state, with the demos and everything. It took me 10 years to reach this point, and in those 10 years, the Brazilian RPG Maker community has drastically shrunk in size: many RPG Maker-focused sites and forums shut down, including Mundo RPG Maker (a.k.a. MRM), the biggest of them and the one I used the most, which ceased activities in 2017. The few sites that still exist are semi-active, their population is only a fraction of what it used to be.

But how bad it could be? Well, on October 2021 I tried to log onto one of those forums to post my game, only to realize that not only most of the latest posts on the forum ranged from one week to one month, but I was the only person accessing the forum at the time. The other forums weren’t much better, and in fact, only one person posted on my thread about the game.

How can I, for lack of a better word, advertise my game and get feedback if the community simply isn’t there?

Originally, The Legend of Vinicius RPG would only get an English translation after the main story was completed, but after seeing how dead the Brazilian RPG Maker community is, I have no choice but translate the game right now, as the demos are releasing.

So, the cycle now is: Add more content to the game > Release a demo > Translate the demo to English > Add more content to the game.

Now that I have to translate the game in-between demos, development will slow down a lot.

I, however, don’t know when the English translation for the latest demo will be ready.

For last but not least: 2020 and 2021, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, were good years to me. For one, the only difference between pre-pandemic and now is that I don’t need to leave home to do college stuff, and I managed to do a lot of things so far:

- I’m almost done with The Legend of Vinicius’ first season (only one chapter is left, and it’s a “behind the scenes” type);

- I managed to release three demos for The Legend of Vinicius RPG, development is going smoothly;

- I’m getting better at drawing, and even got into pixel art.

- The many anime I finished watching or am watching during the pandemic, including “Mirumo de Pon!”, I’m at episode 62 (out of 172) right now.

- I found my new favorite game of all time, Puzzle & Dragons Z.

On the second semester of 2019, I entered a game development course. Now, after five semesters the course has officially ended, and it’s only a matter of time until I enter into the more professional side of game development. With that in mind, in addition to The Legend of Vinicius RPG, I will also be making my first commercial game, using Unity rather than RPG Maker.

Why not use RPG Maker? Because most video game companies don’t work with RPG Maker and limiting myself to one engine means I won’t go very far (especially when said engine is niche). I’m not going to abandon RPG Maker, I just want to add more engines into the mix.

The only things I can say about this commercial game is that it will be a minigame collection with RPG elements, like most “Mirumo de Pon!” games and that I wanted to make it an Otaku Warriors game, but my skepticism towards how publishers handle copyright and ownership is preventing me from using them in the game, I will instead make something inspired by Otaku Warriors, but with different title and characters.

Oh, and I also started writing hentai fanfics in 2019, but I have only written one so far. I will try to change that in addition to all the work on the other fanfics and games.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

When I created my DeviantArt account back in 2012, I already knew what I wanted to do, and kept working on it despite all the problems I had and the other projects that came among the way. Now, after all these years, the project that started all is finally coming to its conclusion, maybe?

You don't know what I'm talking about? let me explain: it all started at Christmas 2011, when I got a Nintendo 3DS with Mario Kart 7, and ten days later, I got Super Mario 3D Land. At the time I was already familiarized with the RPG Maker, but they were experimental, unfocused messes that didn't managed to reach even pre-alpha state. This all changed when I got the 3DS and these two games, combine that with my love for video games and Super Mario World being the first video game I ever played, and you have Super Mario Revolution (SMR for short).

SMR was originally a manga that would be published on DeviantArt, and transformed into a game if it proved to be massively popular, however, my amateurish drawing skills let to the dropping of the manga idea in favor of a game right off the bat. It was the first time I had put so much effort in developing a game. Unfortunately, there were many complications among the way, which led to the project being cancelled... until I decided to resurrect it as a fanfic, and this time it would have Vinicius (the new character from SMR) as the protagonist, and instead of having Mario as its main theme, it would be video games in general.

This led to the creation of The Legend of Vinicius on July 7, 2013, as a fanfic, with a game being made around the same time. Erratic schedule aside, the fanfic is doing just fine, and its first season(out of five) is close to finish, with an English translation being made. The game, on the other hand, faced multiple problems and had its development restarted many times... until NOW! This time, it will be finished for real.

THE LEGEND OF VINICIUS RPG is currently in development

The game aims to be a "One-Man Army" RPG, where you control only one character and has to use and abuse of customization in order to bring their full power.

There are nine elements in the game, each one of them is assigned to an equipment that gives elemental attacks (or resistance, in the case of armors, helms and shields) to the player. In future updates, it will be possible to permanently learn new abilities by defeating bosses in rematches.

Log:

- 1st area 100%, 1st dungeon 100%, 1st story boss 100%;

- 2nd area 100%, 2nd dungeon 100%, 2nd story boss 100%;

I don't know exactly how to say that, but I'll try my best.
So, 2019 was a special year, mainly because I started the game development course, and this semester was quite the fun ride, even my report card (you know, the thing that shows your grades) reflects that, but speaking of reflection...
I may have said this countless times, but still: the reason things like "The Legend of Vinicius" and "Otaku Warriors" are fanfics is because, at the time, I simply couldn't transform my ideas into the games I wanted so much, so create fanfics was my way to cut corners, and this proved to be a good idea, since now I basically have entire documents of ideas for the games, and this is where things start to get shady: sure, I'm in the game development course now, but my fanfics haven't gotten past the first season yet, and last year I barely, if at all, updated them, even though they are a very important part of the whole thing.

It can't stay like that anymore.

And as such, some changes will be made:
1) I will open two wikis dedicated to anyhting related to my stuff (which I will dub "(The) Viniciusverse"). It's much more practical to write articles and detailed biographies on a wiki than on dA.
2) I was originally going to post English-translated versions of The Legend of Vinicius only after the first season (or arc, if you prefer) was done, but no more wait. The pilot chapter is already being translated, as well as the other chapters.
3) MAYBE I move to digital art as well.
